April 30, 2026
Today we're excited to announce the official launch of World Sports Day 2026. After months of planning, listening, and building, the movement is ready to step into the spotlight, with a clear date, a clear purpose, and a clear invitation to everyone, everywhere, to take part.
World Sports Day is a celebration of humanity through the universal act of sport. From kickabouts in the back garden, to neighbourhood 5Ks, to club tournaments, every activity counts, and every participant becomes part of something bigger. The day belongs to anyone who has ever laced up a pair of trainers, picked up a ball, or stood on a starting line.
A movement, not just a moment
We have always believed that sport is one of the most powerful tools for unity that we have. It crosses borders, languages, and generations. World Sports Day exists to channel that power into a single shared moment, one weekend a year, where the entire island, and eventually the entire world, moves together.
This launch is the start, not the finish line. Over the coming months we will introduce the ambassadors carrying the flag, the partners standing alongside us, and the schools, clubs, and communities making the day their own. Whether you sign up to compete, organise an event, or simply share the message, you have a place in this story.
How to get involved
The simplest way to start is to mark the date and tell someone. Beyond that, our get involved page maps out the next steps for athletes, schools, partners, and ambassadors. We will be adding tools, toolkits, and registration as the date draws closer. Until then, thank you for being here at the start.
